Sebenza police catch suspect with copper cables

The suspect was unable top explain where the copper cables come from.

Sebenza SAPS Sergeants Kwena Mokobodi and Lorraine Mavundza arrested one male for possession of stolen copper on March 3.

The officers were driving on Zuurfontein Road to Kempton Park when they turned to Plane Road and saw a vehicle parked next to the road.

Copper cables and aluminium were found in the trunk of the suspect’s car on March 3.

“Approximately five men were loading something from the field into their vehicle which seemed suspicious to the officers.

“When the officers approached the men they ran away. Mokobodi managed to apprehend one of the men,” said Sebenza SAPS communications officer Sergeant Sharon Tsotsotso.

“When they checked in the boot of the car, they found copper cables and aluminium.

“The suspect failed to explain where the goods came from. Back-up was called and Sebenza SAPS arrived on the scene,” added Tsotsotso.

Police officers searched the field to look for the other suspects, however, they were not found.

The suspect was taken to Sebenza Police Station and detained for possession of copper.

The suspect appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on March 6.

The outcome of the court appearance was not known at the time of going to print.
