St Andrews’ learners tour Microsoft head office

Learners got an in-depth look into the fourth industrial revolution.

The senior swimming A team for St Andrew’s School for Girls obtained the third position at the premier inter-high swimming gala.

The school’s B team placed fifth in the A inter-high swimming gala and was named the second-best B team.

On the academic front, the Grade 11 class, along with matriculants who have taken computer application technology (CAT) and information technology (IT) as subjects, visited Microsoft’s head office on February 22, where they learnt about Azure, Artificial intelligence (AI) and the cloud.

The marketing assistant, Jeanette Lloyd, said, “This was an incredible opportunity for our girls, organised by our CAT and IT staff, Du Plessis and Holden, to whom we are very grateful.

“Although not usually offered to schools, our girls were given a tour of Microsoft’s education centre and were inspired by the wisdom of several speakers, including Elizabeth Chacko (Microsoft career story), Lebogang Madise (Microsoft career story), Andre Mills (Azure Core), Thavash Govender (Azure Data and AI), Paul Vermaak (Azure App Innovation), and Jonathan Hart (MTC Tour).”

She has extended her gratitude to the Microsoft team.

The Intersen Phase girls attended the Ash Wednesday service in the chapel.

The girls threw their sticks in the fire as they quietly walked back to class and reflected on Lent and the meaning of Ash Wednesday.
