Criminals target e-hailing services in Klopperpark

Bedfordview police have issued a warning about smash and grabbers on Boeing Road East.

Criminals targeted e-hailing services in Klopperpark in an attempted hijacking on Welkom Street in Klopperpark on February 7.

This came after the suspects requested a ride from one of the e-hailing services.

Upon arrival, two suspects held the driver at gunpoint demanding that he exit the vehicle.

A shootout ensued, leaving the suspects injured but they still fled the scene on foot.

Another case of hijacking and kidnapping was reported to the police after an e-hailing driver was also hijacked in Klopperpark.

The victim, driving a Nissan Almeria, was threatened with a firearm by two suspects.

Bedfordview police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sinothi Ndaba said, “Two suspects requested a ride from Edenvale going to Klopperpark.

When they arrived at Klopperpark, one of the suspects pointed a gun at the driver. He was then tied up and placed inside the boot.

“They drove around with him and later was dropped off on N12 near Meadowdale.”

The victim found the car abandoned while he was walking from the drop-off.

The vehicle was circulated and booked with the SAPS.

Police have also warned of smash and grabbers on Boeing Road East.
