Thieves make off with goods to the value of R1.5m in Meadowdale

The suspects tied up the security officer with his shoelaces before making off with large sums of money and other items.

Police are investigating a business robbery following an incident on February 8 on Watt Street in Meadowdale.

A local business was invaded by criminals around 02:00, walking away with R500 000 cash, a watch, Kruger coins and two firearms.

The value of these items, according to the police, adds up to R1.5m.

The intruders accosted the security officer on site and one of the suspects pointed a gun at him. The guard was forced into the guard room and tied up with his shoelaces before four other suspects pulled up with two cars.

“The shift that had to relieve the guard found him tied in the guardroom at 06:00,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sinothi Ndaba.

It was later discovered the suspects managed to take the items by using an industrial grinder to cut through the safes.

They left behind hunting rifles.
