Local basketball academy hopes for a successful year

“I believe the academy and the teams will have a good year ahead if we keep going the way we are.”

Edenvale Lions Basketball Academy members were in action on the court when the academy officially kicked off the new year with practice.

On January 14, athletes young and old returned to the court recharged from the December holidays and prepared for the year ahead.

The practice was held at the academy’s home grounds at Edenvale Sports Ground.

With preparations underway, this year the academy plans on hosting the biggest basketball tournament in Africa an R1m tournament.

The ­ TVT at Ellis Park will be held between August 23 and 29.

It is limited to eight teams and registration will cost R35 000 per team.

Speaking to the players at the first practice coach and Elba co-founder Byron Pinheiro said players must focus on improving their skills and strategy.

He encouraged Elba’s members to train hard and give it their all this year.
