While the NPO is known for reselling second-hand items to generate an income to provide care and support for patients with life-limiting illnesses, many will be surprised by the variety and quality of items the charity shops stock.

Visitors can find anything and everything from clothing, furniture, kitchenware, ornaments, jewellery, books and more.

The quality of items on sale speaks volumes.

The NPO’s charity shop coordinator, Carla Steenkamp, and her team sort through each item donated to ensure things resold are in good working order, clean and ready for reuse. Items are then distributed weekly to their 10 charity shops.

Each charity shop is run by a shop manager who has volunteers who donate their time.

Any items donated directly to the charity shops are sorted by the shop manager and her volunteer team in the same manner as at the depot.

Hospice East Rand charity shops will be closed from December 22 to recharge before the new year.
