Local matriculants invited to apply for bursary for 2023

Gibela is inviting learners to apply for their bursary applications for universities and TVET institutions in 2023.

Gibela Rail Consortium is offering 150 bursaries for learning opportunities in 2023.

Applications are now open until January 15.

The bursaries are for the following fields: engineering, manufacturing, computer science, supply chain and logistics, as well as various trade fields. This is to attend universities or technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions.

Bursaries include full tuition, a book allowance, accommodation and meals.

Technical skills required in the manufacturing of trains.

The bursaries are granted for one year and are renewable on an annual basis based on academic performance.
Bursary applicants must be:

• South African citizens with a valid ID

• Enrolled or intending to enrol at a South African TVET institution (current N3/N4 candidates are encouraged to apply)

• Enrolled or intending to enrol at a South African university or university of technology (current first- and second-year candidates are encouraged to apply)

Gibela is the only train manufacturer in Africa. From its plant in Dunnottar, Ekurhuleni, the company is producing 600 new train sets for the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).

They have produced over 100 X’trapolis Mega commuter trains to date. Bursaries for study at a university or university of technology are available in the following disciplines:

• Electrical, electronic, mechanical, metallurgical, and industrial engineering

• Computer science and information technology

• Accounting

• Supply chain and logistics management

The prerequisites for applying for the bursary at a university or university of technology are:

• A matric with level 6 for mathematics, physical science and accounting, and level 5 for English

• Written proof of acceptance for admission to a South African university or university of technology
• Proof of income from a parent or guardian

Bursaries to study at TVET institutions are available for the following professions:

• Boilermakers

• Electricians

• Mechanics

• Welders

• Millwrights

• Pattern-makers

• Vehicle-builders

• Plumbers

The prerequisites for the bursary at a TVET institution are:

• A matric with mathematics and science, and English at level 4

• Written proof of acceptance for admission to a South African TVET institution

Gibela will respond only to applicants who make it through the first round of assessments. If you have not been contacted by February 28, consider your application unsuccessful.
