Germiston’s disability centre invites locals to its golf day

Remme-Los centre to hosts a golf day on Friday 18 November.

Remme-Los Centre is an NPO providing accommodation and care to quadriplegics and paraplegics in Primrose.
It also provides caregiving services to 12 disabled members within the community.

Remme-Los is affiliated to the QuadPara Association of Gauteng South (QAGS) and its national body the QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA).

The centre was started in 1987/88 by quadriplegics for quadriplegics to provide permanent accommodation, transport and other much needed services to persons with spinal cord injuries.

Elizabeth Engelmohr, office assistant, said their vision is to achieve a better life for quadriplegics and paraplegics by means of sustainable self-help projects assisted by the concerned donor organisations.

“Our services include advocacy and lobbying of government departments at provincial and local level, conducting awareness campaigns on the causes and prevention of spinal cord injury, the distribution of information to people with disabilities and networking with similar organisations in South Africa,” said Elizabeth.

“As an independent living centre, we offer services to the spinally injured individuals living within the surrounding Germiston community.

“We house eight individuals who use wheelchairs and they benefit from the Remme-Los programme,” she said.

Due to financial challenges the centre is hosting a Golf Day on November 18 at the Modderfontein Golf Course.

Members of the community can sponsor a hole from R1000. It’s R2800 per four ball.
