CoE puts measures in place as water levels get critically low in the region

The public is reminded of the prohibition of irrigation between 07:00 and 17:00.

Water levels in the City of Ekurhuleni region are critically low due to high consumption and stage 2 water restrictions by Rand Water.

CoE spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, appealed to residents to for reduced water consumption to allow reservoir levels to improve.

“The city employed various measures to improve the reservoir levels. Among those is the reduction of water pressure in areas with high consumption, and closing of outlet valves at night to allow the reservoir levels to build up,” the statement added.

Furthermore, the city prioritised major burst pipes and leaks to contain water losses.

According to CoE, the following reservoirs are experiencing low pressure to no water:

“The public is reminded of the prohibition of irrigation between 07:00 and 17:00, and stringent enforcement of water supply by-laws regarding illegal connections, water use, and any other water-related contravention.

“The city has dispatched water tankers to provide water to the affected areas.”

Residents are encouraged to fix leaks in their properties, and to report leaks and pipe bursts on the municipal water reticulation network on contact 0860 543 000.
