On October 7, representatives of Ward 18’s and Ward 19’s ward committees joined by community members repaired and erected a piece of fence that was previously damaged.

The repaired and erected fence at the property is home to Edenvale Traffic Department and the Edenvale Clinic.

Stakeholders who led the initiative were Ward 19 committee member and former councillor Edward Taylor (economic development and city planning), Ward 18 committee members Simon Molemoge (economic development and city planning), Realeboha Mofolo (infrastructure services) and Edenvale’s Traffic Department manager Lisa Kok.

According to Mofolo, the traffic department did send reports for the infrastructure to be repaired but nothing was done.

“The traffic department and clinic provide services to Ward 18 and 19 as well as neighbouring towns,” said Mofolo.

He said a damaged fence is a key point of safety and security.

“The ward committees through consultation with Ward 18 and 19 councillors, traffic department managers and some community members held consultative meetings to bring solutions to protect our community property.”

On September 21, the two ward committees conducted a site visit to view the damage and further escalate previously reported matters.

Mofolo said during the site visits, the ward committee and community members voluntarily committed themselves to repair the broken fence and escalating basic service delivery issues around the property.

Such issues identified by the group included water leaks, the trimming of trees and the cutting of grass.

Following the site visit, the stakeholders and community members repaired, re-welded and installed the fence to secure the property.
