The Thursday morning incident brought traffic between Edenvale, Germiston and Bedfordview to a crawl.

Following the collision, Bedfordview and Edenvale News received reports of looting which EMPD confirmed did occur.

EMPD media liaison officer Marie Mashishi said bystanders looted liquid dish soap, which was being transported by the truck.

“No arrests were made but the products of the truck were recovered by the EMPD members.”

City of Ekurhuleni’s disaster and emergency management services media liaison William Ntladi said Primrose fire station’s fire and rescue crews responded to the scene to provide immediate intervention.

“The spilt product from the truck was liquid soap while a bakkie involved was transporting powdered soap.”
He said no serious injuries were accounted for as on scene.

According to Mashishi, the passenger of the truck sustained slight injuries.

“Only two patients were treated and transported to nearby medical facilities by private ambulance paramedics,” said Ntladi.

“The other occupants of other vehicles escaped unharmed.”

Mashishi said the driver lost control and the truck’s trailer rolled a couple of times,” said Mashishi.

“Soon after the other vehicles collided with each other, one after another.”

Mashishi said motorists can avoid similar incidents by abiding by the rules and regulations of the road.

“Maintain a safe following distance between yourself and the vehicle in front of you.
