On September 24 MCS heritage champion Keith Martin and Robbie Vermont will conduct urban ambles around the historical village.

The walks will start at 09:00 at The Dynamite Company Museum, 2 Main Street, Modderfontein.

The museum will be open from 08:30 to 12:30.

Robbie said the opening of the museum will allow visitors to see why Modderfontein was called a ‘Power for Prosperity’ in the area.

It will also show how the factory contributed to the wealth and development of Edenvale and Kempton Park, as well as the country.

Other aspects of AECI’s operations are also showcased in the museum.

Parking on the grounds of the original factory manager’s house, built in 1895, will give visitors a chance to stroll through the gardens.

According to Robbie, the walks are popular, so booking is essential.

The cost is R50 a head. The distance is 2.2km and lasts about two hours.

Robbie advised walkers to wear comfortable shoes and hats and to bring something to drink if they will need it.

Call Robbie on 011 608 2693 or 082 800 3704 or phone Keith on 011 608 2864 or 082 450 4003 to book.
