Ekurhuleni woman in hospital after attack by ex-boyfriend

A girlfriend who was shot four times by her boyfriend is currently in hospital with one bullet lodged in her jaw.

Detectives tasked with investigating serious violence cases at the Ivory Park SAPS arrested a 40-year-old man for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend in Allandale, Kaalfontein.

“The suspect paid an unannounced visit about a week ago to his 38-year-old girlfriend’s place, who resides on the same street,” said Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Ben Matimulane.

Matimulane said

“Upon arrival, the boyfriend was refused entry and that was when he allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend.

“He wanted to shoot his ex-girlfriend and current boyfriend. Since the incident the police have been on his tail and he was eventually captured on August 25,” said Matimulane.

He said the woman is still in hospital with one bullet lodged in her jaw.

Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of Ivory Park SAPS, urged victims or potential victims of domestic violence to seek help as soon as signs begin to show.

“In most situations, the perpetrator would display abusive behaviour.

“More often than not, victims tend to ignore this until the problem has snowballed,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.

Some signs are controlling behaviour, such as deciding on behalf of the victim on who they should communicate to, stalking and going through phones and personal items.

Matimulane advised that victims guard against the above and seek help, preferably from the police or their families.

Victims can call the police crime stop at 08600 10111 or 112 from their cell phones.
