Edenvale Lions continue to sharpen skills

Members of the academy took to their home court on August 13 perfecting their skills and preparing themselves for ELBA’s senior Vale Tournament.

Set to be held in the coming months, the Elba co-founder and coach Byron Pinheiro said the academy intends to host a TVT with a purse of R10m up for grabs.

Although preparations for the tournament are still being made, the academy wasted no time getting its members prepared after it recently hosted the U19 Vale Tournament.

Held on July 30 and 31, teams battled it out for their share of the R50 000 prize money.

On August 13 members of Edenvale Lions Basketball Academy (ELBA) were spotted on the court engaged in a game of scrimmage.

Elba’s U19s took third place.

Pinheiro said the friendly match, played between senior academy members, was held after a practice and drills.

Located at Edenvale Sports Grounds the academy attracts players from various areas including Edenvale, Germiston, Kempton Park, Thembisa, Alexandra and the greater Johannesburg East area.

Practice for junior players is held on Tuesdays between 15:00 and 18:00.

Other practice sessions are held on Wednesdays from 15:00 to 19:00 and on Saturdays from 08:00 to 13:00.
