197 suspects in custody after Ekurhuleni operation

Joint task teams were successful in operation Okae Molao in local communities.

Ekurhuleni SAPS members joined in efforts to curb the presence of different crimes in the communities of Thembisa South and Daveyton.

This operation, known as Okae Molao, took place on August 11 with the EMPD, Gauteng traffic, CPFs, home affairs and other stakeholders playing a part in policing the areas.

Operation Okae Molao saw officers hit the streets of Thembisa.

According to Ekurhuleni SAPS District communications officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela, under the leadership of the district commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, the operation yielded several arrests including two for rape, five arrests for assault which involved domestic violence, eight for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and two for malicious damage to property.

Officers issued 102 traffic fines, shut down 12 liquor outlets and nabbed 12 suspects for dealing in liquor without licenses.

“Detectives also traced suspects during Operation Okae Molao between August 10 and 11,” said Sekgobela.

The captain said 197 suspects were apprehended, which included 50 arrests for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and 25 connected to GBV.
