Almost 2000 squares knitted at local retirement home to mark Mandela Day

“This year, our residents completed 1 966 squares, beating last year’s record of 1 602 squares.”

Residents from Rand Aid’s Inyoni Creek Retirement Village again reached out to support the NPO 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day when they donated 1 966 hand-made squares.

The knitted and crocheted squares were donated to the NPO to make blankets for those in need.

Inyoni Creek’s hard-working knitters and crocheters come together annually to make as many squares as possible to help keep those less fortunate warm in winter.

“This year, our residents beat last year’s record of 1 602 squares,” said Inyoni Creek’s manager Jenny Tonkin.

“A huge thank you to everyone who made this possible and reached out to help those in need.”

To celebrate, the residents who took part enjoyed muffins and cocoa, kindly sponsored by Inyoni Creek’s deputy manager Marinda Looyen.
