“Throughout the event, the levels of team spirit, excitement, singing, dancing, cheering, clapping, determination and friendly competitiveness were thrilling to witness and experience,” said Debbie Christen, Rand Aid’s manager of recreational programmes.

She said many residents enjoyed themselves immensely.

“Some who don’t normally participate in recreational activities really came alive during the competitions,” said Debbie.

“Others, who thought they wouldn’t be able to manage some of the events, were encouraged to try anyway, and were amazed and delighted by the results of their efforts.”

Debbie said family members were kept informed of the ‘Olympics’ and sent messages of support and congratulations.

Besides residents and family members being happy, Debbie said the staff enjoyed themselves too.

“Many couldn’t stop talking about it and have already asked for a repeat,” explained Debbie.

“It was wonderful to see all of the wings having fun together, especially after Covid-19 and the various lockdowns,” said Debbie.

She said judging from the feedback from residents, staff and family members the ‘Olympics’ were a resounding success.
