Ekurhuleni murder case postponed

The state requested the postponement for outstanding investigations which include the release of a post mortem and collection of DNA.

The case against murder accused Cornelius Stefan van Niekerk was postponed in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court this morning (July 19).

The State requested the postponement for outstanding investigations, which include the release of a post-mortem and collection of DNA.

At his previous appearance in court, van Niekerk abandoned his bail application.

As a result, he was remanded in custody until his next appearance on September 13.

He stands accused of murder following the death of two-year-old Chevonne Rusch on May 11.

After his arrest on May 13, van Niekerk made his first appearance in court on May 16 where the case against him was postponed to May 25 for a formal bail application.
