LETTER: ‘What will be the next change in Modderfontein?’

I was under the impression that the club was a thriving hub of activity and provided wonderful coaching and developmental opportunities.

I was devastated and deeply saddened to read about the closure of the Modderfontein Tennis Club in the June 6 Edition of Bedfordview and Edenvale News.

This blow comes just when I was under the impression that the club was a thriving hub of activity and provided wonderful coaching and developmental opportunities.

So many residents of Modderfontein were attracted to the area due to its “country-like” environment and village atmosphere as well as for its sporting facilities; golf, bowls, soccer, squash and tennis.

Then came the developers who began erecting high-density residential estates and threatening the closure of the sports clubs.

Fortunately, the golf, squash and bowls clubs have survived although their futures are, to say the least, insecure.

Has M&T Development no concept that encouraging the sports clubs to thrive, will attract more people and provide healthy and attractive recreational opportunities so close to home?

Kind regards
