Fatal shooting and attempted hijacking in Modderfontein investigated

The driver was approached by two suspects one of whom was armed with a handgun.

Sandringham SAPS are investigating multiple charges following a fatal shooting and attempted hijacking in Modderfontein on Friday 7 July.

This comes after two suspects tried to hijack the driver of a BMW on the off-ramp near Modderfontein Road.

Sandringham Police Stations spokesperson Warrant Officer Aaron Lebuso said the driver was approached by two suspects one of which was armed with a handgun.

He said the driver was travelling in a northerly direction.

“After the suspects approached the victim, they ordered him out of his car,” said Lebuso.

“However, after seeing the suspect’s firearm, the victim reacted, drew his firearm and started shooting at the suspects fatally wounding both.”

He said Sandringham SAPS are investigating cases of attempted hijacking, pointing a firearm at a person, armed robbery and an inquest docket.
