Jeppe Boys donates to Gift of the Givers

The collection drive ran for two weeks and in the end the parents and the wider Jeppe community donated R23 000.

Dale Jackson, the headmaster of Jeppe High School for Boys, handed a cheque for R20 000 to Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, founder of the Gift of the Givers Foundation, at the Aspiring Deputies and Heads Conference, held at the St Andrew’s Hotel and Spa last week.

The money, donated by the school’s parents, is earmarked for the Gift of the Givers’ KwaZulu-Natal flood relief initiative.

The fundraising project was the brainchild of Laureen Schafer, an administrator in the finance office at the school.
Among her tasks, she works with the school’s Karri electronic payment app.

“The Karri app gives users the option to donate to various causes.

“I requested our parents to donate on that option when they made payments. I decided to make the Gift of the Givers project the beneficiary,” she said.

“I always had great admiration for Sooliman and the work he does, and was delighted to meet him in person at the cheque handover.

“The pictures of suffering emerging from the flooded areas, many of which had also been affected by the riots, were so moving, that I decided that was where the money should go.”
