Schools go head to head at Ekurhuleni tournament

The sporting event was hosted at the Greek Sporting Club Corinthians in Bedfordview.

Youngsters showcased their talent fighting for bragging rights to be called the Discovery Knock-Out Cup champions.

The programme has been a platform that encourages healthier living from an early age.

“The tournament is part of the Discovery soccer school programme that is one of three events.

We also have the Discovery Schools Festival and the Alex League,” said Deon Curtis, senior marketing manager of sponsorship experimental marketing.

Yeshivha College was crowned the Discovery Primary Schools Knock-out Cup U12s champions.

 

The tournament featured U9 to U14 boys and girls matches.

The winning teams received the winner’s trophies and medals.

Yeshiva College won the U12 finals and Yonatan Shirazi was named Player of the Match.

He received a ball signed by Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele who also handed over the medals and the championship cup to Yeshiva College.

Fanafuthi Vilakazi, Yeshiva College coach, said he was impressed by his boys’ performance.

“The boys played well to score a goal in the first half to give us a lead.

We scored three more goals in the second half.

The final score was 4-1 against Bryneven Primary School,” said Vilakazi.

The following teams contested the finals in their respective divisions:

U9 boys: King Edward Preparatory vs Yeshiva College.

U10 girls: Cliffview Primary School vs Lyndhurst Primary School.

U10 boys: King David Sandton vs King David Linksfield.

U11: Fairsands Primary School vs Bryneven Primary School.

U14: Montrose Primary School vs Saheti.

U11 boys: Heronbridge vs King David Linksfield.

U12 boys: Bryneven Primary School vs Yeshiva College.

U13: Greenside vs King David Linksfield.

U14 boys: Kings School Linbro Park vs Montrose Primary School.
