Hurlyvale Primary School leaner off to Madeira

The CR7 Youth tournament is an international youth tournament that aims to inspire young soccer players as well as expose them to a cultural exchange.

Andrew Ogle, a learner from Hurlyvale Primary School, was selected to take part in the Cristiano Ronaldo Campus Youth Tournament 2022.

The CR7 (a nickname for Ronaldo) tournament will take place in Madeira.

The international youth tournament aims to inspire young soccer players as well as expose them to cultural exchange.

Andrew, also known as ‘AndyO’ among his soccer teammates, started his soccer journey at the age of four through Little Kickers.

He played for Edenvale FC while training with SuperSport Soccer School Edenvale.

He is currently with Jorge’s Elite Soccer School (JESS) run by coach Jorge Pereira.

Andrew said he is excited about his new opportunity, but also nervous at the same time.

His U11 JESS team will be leaving on June 22, playing their first match in the tournament against Burnley FC from the UK on July 29.

The tournament will host around 86 teams and 1 290 participants playing 320 matches.

“All of us at Hurlyvale wish Andrew all the very best. Needless to say, we are very proud of him,” said Graeme Mitchley, deputy principal at Hurlyvale Primary School.
