Two fuel thieves caught in Ekurhuleni

On June 2 Benoni Flying Squad members arrested six suspects and recovered one motor vehicle, explosives and unlicensed ammunition.

Two suspects were arrested for the possession of stolen diesel on June 2 while travelling from Pretoria to Kempton Park.

Benoni Flying Squad arrested the two when officers followed up on information about a white Nissan 1400 transporting a large container of diesel.

The Mercedes Benz used by the 29 -year-old to transport explosives.

BFS spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin says the two were wanted on a Silverton case for theft of diesel.

The same unit received information about the transport of firearms in a white Mercedes travelling on the N12 towards Johannesburg.

Giblin said officers identified the vehicle and gave chase.

“They managed to stop the vehicle on Albertina Sisulu Road at the corner of Marcia Street in Bruma.

“A search of the Mercedes and occupant led to the recovery of fifteen live rounds of ammunition, five tubed explosives, blasting cartridges, detonation ropes and capped fuse cords.

Ammunition, explosives, blasting cartridges, detonation ropes and capped fuse cords were confiscated during an arrest on June 2.

“The 29-year-old driver was arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed ammunition and explosives,” said Giblin

“These explosives could have been used for numerous criminal activities and we are thankful to have removed them from our streets,” said Giblin.

In further policing, a 34-year-old was arrested in Noodrand Road, Kempton Park in possession of nyaope (heroine) and a white Ford Transit from a courier company was found abandoned in Dawn Park after it had been reported as hijacked.
