The launch followed the release of the 2022 Blue Drop Progress Report early this year that certifies the City’s water quality as having achieved excellent microbiological compliance and good chemical compliance.

According to the metro spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, the city was also rated for its adequately aligned monitoring programmes.

He stated that this indicates the City’s water may not pose health risks to the consumers.

As part of the Blue Drop Water Quality Campaign, Rand Water contributed 5000, 25-litre water bottles that will be donated across the city to ensure residents safely and conveniently store water.

MMC Sibeko announced that Driefontein informal settlement will soon be re-blocked and that will come with piped water to each dwelling to do away with the communal water taps.

“The metro continues its efforts to broaden the access to the City’s Blue Drop certified water. The aim is to ensure that each family has its own tap. However, residents are reminded of the responsibility to use water sparingly,” said Sibeko.
