Editor – On May 15, I gathered what little money I had saved for a birthday cake for my eldest child and went to Karaglen SuperSpar to get dinner.

In my head, I thought I had just over R300.
I was buying dinner for two nights while also buying lunch for my two sons and myself for the next day.
My ex-husband had still not paid his maintenance money leaving me in a very difficult situation.
When I got to the till the amount was just over R350.
I counted my money and I was short R100.
While I was informing the cashier that I needed to put items back as I could not afford to take them all, a very kind gentleman asked how much I was short.
I said that I did not know as I was stressed out.
The gentleman took out R100 and paid the outstanding amount.
I was overwhelmed by his kindness and generosity and still am. I would like to thank the hero that stood behind me at the till point at Karaglen SuperSpar because if it weren’t for him, I don’t know what I would have done.
A little kindness goes a long way. My two boys saw what you did and I hope that one day they can be true heroes just like you!
