According to BFS spokesperson WO Grant Giblin, police arrested six suspects on April 14 for the possession of counterfeit money amounting to R4 400.

This is after officers received information about a suspect detained at a liquor store in Benoni that had attempted to make a purchase with counterfeit cash.

“At the scene, his accomplices fled in a white Audi and took to the N12 highway towards Johannesburg. Members gave chase and stopped the vehicle with five occupants on the N12 before Gillooly’s interchange.

“A search led to the seizure of R4 400 in counterfeit Rand notes. The five suspects were arrested as well as the suspect already detained at the liquor outlet,” said Giblin.

Six suspects were arrested in separate incidents for possession of drugs in Brakpan, Ivory Park Extension 10, Winnie Mandela and Vusi Musi Section in Thembisa where Mandrax, crystal methamphetamine, nyaope (heroine), dagga and rocks (cocaine) were confiscated.

The three abandoned vehicles recovered were a Volkswagen Polo in Ivory Park, reported hijacked on an Ivory Park case, a white Toyota Corolla in Isando reported stolen on a Kempton Park case and a silver Toyota Hilux in Ivory Park reported hijacked on an Ivory Park case.
