Edenvale Police Station’s communication officer, Sgt Jacob Mashile, said the suspect was arrested on April 8.

“The members were conducting patrols when they spotted a suspicious-looking vehicle on Elm Street in Dowerglen,” said Mashile.

He said after approaching the vehicle, the officers introduced themselves to the driver and requested permission to search him and the vehicle.

Mashile said while searching the suspect’s waistline, police found a firearm. When asked for the weapon’s licence, the suspect did not have one.

“A silver .38 special revolver with six live rounds were taken from the suspect,” said Mashile.

“He was arrested and detained at Edenvale Police Station for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”

Edenvale SAPS station commander Col Ntombomzi Basholo commended the officers involved.

She encouraged officers to continue protecting Edenvale’s citizens.
