Communications officer for Sebenza Police Station Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso said the man linked to the 2018 Croydon case was sentenced to eight years in prison and was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

“Van Wyngald applauded investigation officer Det Const Morongwa Mokwatedi for the good work and making sure criminals are removed from the community and face the full might of the law,” said Tsotsotso.

Tsotsotso said in 2018 the complainant informed police that when she went to bed on September 18, all her doors were locked and windows were closed.

“The following morning, while she was still in bed, she heard her dogs barking and went to check. She found the main door forced open and her property stolen.”

Tsotsotso said after the crime was reported, the fingerprint unit was summoned to the scene.

She said fingerprints returned positive.

“Mokwatedi received a 212 Statement from the Local Criminal Record Centre that identified the then suspect and traced the complainant,” said Tsotsotso.

She said the complainant confirmed she did not know the suspect and that he did not have her permission to be in her house.

“Further tracking was done, and the suspect was positively linked to the crime and taken to court where he was sentenced,” said Tsotsotso.
