The Bishop Grandin boarding house recently underwent a makeover.

The house, founded in 2006, was refurbished with new floors, beds, walls and furniture. It now makes this home a really great home away from home.
The renovations within the house have not only been major physical reconstructions but also emotional and behavioural as well.
“At Bishop Grandin, we have accepted the challenge of ‘being the change that we would like to see’. The staff and boys have a specific focus of creating a family environment here, where each boy truly experiences this place as a home away from home, as we all strive for excellence in the four pillars of our school – academics, sports, culture and religion – here at Bishop Grandin we have the fifth pillar of brotherhood,” said boarding head Bobbie Vas.
The St Benedict’s boarding house is home to 75 boys from Grade Eight to 12.
Throughout its tenure, the boarding house has been known to produce elite-level athletes, academic learners and artists.
Mpho Mohau, the learner head of boarding, said: “Above everything, the brotherhood and togetherness in Bishop Grandin House is almost tangible and lives on long after the boys have left the gates of St Benedict’s College.
“United we form a family. This becomes a home away from home where we strive and live together through Catholic values. Our aim this year is to achieve holistic results across all four pillars. There’s no way we can’t achieve our best with such a cool place.”
