First rugby friendlies played in Edenvale

"It was great to see the community at the event and supporters cheering for the players."

Edenvale and Union rugby clubs took to the field when teams from the two clubs faced off for a day of friendly games at Edenvale Rugby Stadium.

Held at Edenvale Sports Grounds on February 12 the event was the first set of friendlies to be played at Edenvale this year.

Chairperson of Edenvale Rugby Club Ernie Enslin described the day as being successful overall.

“It was a good day, with good weather, the day ran fully and there were no major problems,” said Enslin.

“It was great to see the community at the event and supporters cheering for the players.”

Results from the day’s games are as follows:
• Tendella’s vs Hillbillies: 2-2.
• Edenvale U-21 vs Union: 92-0.
• Edenvale 2nd team vs Union:47-19.
• Edenvale 1st team vs Union:0-42

“There were good attitudes from both clubs and the morale of the players was good however the first team was a bit down following their loss.”

Enslin said the next event that community members can look forward to at Edenvale Rugby Stadium will be the Tendella.

Golden Oldies’ Day of the Crackling Bones mini-tournament on February 26.

Keeping the rugby coming, Edenvale is set to face Nigel on March 5 and Pretoria Prison on March 19.

On March 26 the club will host a tournament to celebrate its 70th anniversary.
