Intelligence driven operation yields arrests

Two suspects were recently arrested in Edenvale when SAPS conducted an operation after receiving information about suspects committing residential robberies and hijackings in Gauteng.

Ekurhuleni District SAPS communications officer Capt Neldah Sekgobela said SAPS launched an intelligence-driven disruptive operation on February 10.

The operation included members of Ekurhuleni Central District’s Crime Intelligence, Tactical Operational Management Section Team, SAPS Flying Squad and Tracker SA.

Sekgobela said while conducting the operation the suspects’ vehicle, a white Kia Sportage, was spotted in Edenvale and stopped.

He said it is alleged that the suspects intended to commit crimes in Edenvale.

“Two suspects were found inside the vehicle and placed under arrest,” said Sekgobela.

“The vehicle was searched and an unlicensed firearm, a 9 mm pistol, was found inside the vehicle along with house break-in equipment.”

Sekgobela said the vehicle was fitted with a false number plate.

“The suspects were arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and a hijacked motor vehicle.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are linked to Bramley case of hijacking committed in January,” said Sekgobela.

He said the police will conduct further investigations to determine whether the suspects are linked to any other crimes.
