“The EBL is the biggest league with 24 teams participating every fortnight to be crowned champions of Ekurhuleni,” said Seaparo Ramaube, head coach and treasurer.

“Our goal as a club has set our eyes on being the biggest club in Germiston.”

The teams that took part in the league included Edenvale Lions, Katlehong Bulls, Norkem Park Spartans, Leondale Chronix, Bedfordview High and Germiston City Wolves.

“Players have been eager to get back on the court and this saw this year’s league attract teams from as far as Soweto Rising Owls, Malvern Jumpers and Dainfern College,” shared Seaparo.

The host of the basketball league was Germiston City Wolves.

The first game of the day started with the hosts Germiston City Wolves playing against the Malvern Jumpers.
Nerves got the better of the hosts and they lost their first game.

The u-14 and u-19 teams made an incredible comeback to win their second games convincingly later in the day.

The u-19 Edenvale Lions put on the most impressive display of skills on the day, beating the Spartans (Norkem Park) by 50 points.

“It was a great start to the league and we plan to grow from here. We plan to utilise the six basketball courts and get as many games going as we are based at Germiston Stadium,” said Seaparo.
