Set to be held on February 19, Cathy will present her demonstration between 10:00 and 12:00.

Doors will open at 09:30 and entrance will cost visitors R100 and members R30.

Cathy started drawing at 16 years old before taking up art when she was 17. When she matriculated, art was her best subject.

After matric, Cathy started illustrating school books for Perskor.

Throughout her life, Cathy’s career varied from working as an illustrator for books, magazines and newspapers, doing cartoons, murals, being an air-hostess for SAA to running her own business, doing stained glass and sand-blasting.

In 2014, Cathy became a full-time artist again after she joined Art Alive Studios as an art teacher.
As an art teacher, her philosophy is, “The most important thing you can teach your students is how to get along without you.”

Cathy’s favourite mediums include acrylics, chalk pastels and oils.

Over the years, Cathy has taken part in several exhibitions and her work has found homes as far as Canada and the United States of America.

Cathy’s ability to capture character in her portraits made her the 2016 Rotary Portrait Award winner.

In addition to hosting Cathy’s demonstration, the Paint and Palette Group will incorporate a short AGM as well, where the group will vote for committee members.

In the hopes of keeping the AGM as short as possible, there will be no reading of previous minutes, as these will be sent out before to members. Financials of the Paint and Palette Group are available to members on request.

Those who wish to volunteer as committee members must email their nominations to paintandpaletteedenvale@gmail.com

Between 12:00 and 15:30, the group will have a paint together session after the demonstration.

All participants will be provided with a table and set themselves up in a circle in the hall.

Participants will need to bring an easel, materials, cooldrinks/flask and a packed lunch.

Those interested can either try what has just been demonstrated by Cathy or carry on with what they are busy with.

The cleaning of brushes or the disposal of any chemicals at the community centre is strictly prohibited. Painters are reminded to account for this when they pack their materials.

Paint and Palette Group encouraged community members to stay the whole day. However, should they not be able to, then the end of the demonstration at 12:00 will provide an opportunity for them to leave or to join in for the painting session. The cost for the demonstration will remain the same.

The demonstration will observe Covid-19 protocols as best possible; hand sanitiser will be available while the wearing of masks and social distancing will be enforced.

The Paint and Palette Group will only allow 40 people to enter the venue on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Members are reminded that the subscription for this year is R300.
