Basholo was recently appointed Edenvale station commander after former acting station commander Col Eunice Nzuza was appointed station commander of Primrose Police Station.

Basholo started fulfilling her duties as Edenvale’s station commander on February 1.

Since arriving in Edenvale, Basholo said she has noticed the strong relationship between the community and the police.

“I thank God for the family in Edenvale, it is an amazing group of people,” said Basholo.

“The previous management of the station did a good job partnering with the stakeholders, the community is very hands-on.”

Basholo said she will ensure that the good relations between the SAPS and the community are maintained.

An energised chairperson of Edenvale CPF, Sheryl Damerell, said it was exciting to have the hard work and value of the community appreciated.

“I am excited to see what changes the colonel makes and see you stamp your mark on Edenvale Colonel,” highlighted Damerell.

Basholo explained that becoming a police officer was a calling for her.

As a child, Basholo admired police officers and the work that they did.

“While growing up I realised I wanted to become a police officer,” she said.

Throughout her 27 years in the service, Basholo has worked in various parts of Gauteng and the Free State.

Before being appointed Edenvale’s station commander Basholo was station commander for the Msinsini Police Station in KwaZulu-Natal.

Before that, she was station commander for Viljoensdrif Police Station in the Free State.

Besides having the experience of a station commander Basholo will celebrate 28 years of unbroken service to the SAPS and the community on March 1.

Basholo explained that throughout her years of service she has always enjoyed being part of visible policing operations and using a hands-on approach.

“I enjoy going out, I like to get to know residents and interact with community members,” said Basholo.

“By doing so you gain the trust of community members and build stronger relationships.”

Speaking about some of her plans Basholo said she hopes to build on the strong relations between the community and SAPS created by the station’s former management.

Basholo invited those not involved in the fight against crime to become involved.

“We need everyone to do their part, as the police we cannot prevent crime alone,” said Basholo.

“We need to get everyone working in the fight against crime.”

She said if community members don’t want to be at the forefront of fighting there are several informal structures, they can be part of.

Basholo explained that as the police Edenvale SAPS primary role is the prevention of crime.

While Basholo is station commander she hopes to see crime decrease in the station’s precinct, make use of the ECPF effectively, and continue working on successes achieved by the station.

Basholo assured the community that any internal issues that are brought to her attention will be addressed.

“Discipline matters will be addressed to ensure that the police can serve the community as best as possible. I know that we are not perfect but if community members are not satisfied or they encounter a problem with a

police officer or the police station report it as soon as possible.”
