Bedfordview SAPS aims for safer schools

Bedfordview SAPS held a joint high visibility crime prevention operation in Elandsfontein on January 28.

Police officers from Bedfordview and Brakendowns police stations were joined by the Bedfordview CPF, Cortac K9 Unit, BHT Security, RAG/P&C Security and BSG Security.

Phase one of the operation saw police officers, members of the Bedfordview CPF, the Cortac K9 Unit and various security providers visit Sizwe Secondary School.

“A search was conducted at the school. In addition, officers used the opportunity to warn learners about the dangers of substance abuse and the use of dangerous weapons,” Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson Sgt Lillian Modiga said.

She added that during the search, cigarettes and marijuana were found on the school premises.

“The seized items were found abandoned.”

While conducting at the school, information was received about a house close by which was used by diesel theft suspects.

A search was conducted and an officer found a number of containers used for storing the stolen diesel.

“No suspects were found at the property,” Modiga said.

One suspect was, however, arrested shortly after when he was found in possession of drugs.
