Edenvale Police SAPS’ communication officer Sgt Jacob Mashile said cooperation is especially important in in large metropolitan areas that have a high density of security personnel.

Mashile said Edenvale SAPS met with members of ECPF and security companies on January 19 to unpack the plan for the year ahead.

The meeting saw Edenvale’s crime fighters unite as they came together and dicussed how to best serve the community.

“Police officers appreciate the role security officers play, as they are an extra set of eyes on the street who can share observations and monitor trends,” said Mashile.

He said police communicate with private security personnel about possible threats in the area.

An example of the working relationship between the SAPS, CPF and security companies Mashile provided was the police sharing photographs of wanted individuals with the CPF and security companies for them to look for.

“Communication and cooperation between Edenvale CPF, private security companies and law enforcement is crucial,” highlighted Mashile.

“Our town has endured and thrived in the face of being a crime hotspot, but cannot afford to let their guard down.”

Mashile said by working together the public and private sectors are stronger.

He said partnerships are the cornerstone in defending communities against crime.

“Additionally, private security companies can supplement and support Edenvale SAPS and metro police agencies by relieving them of some of their service calls,” said Mashile.
