Residents of Ward 16 voted for Jaco Terblanche last year to be their councillor for another term.

Demolishing illegal buildings (Backroom Shacking) in the Kempton Park Extension is among his plans for the ward.
Q: As the re-elected ward councillor, what do you hope to achieve during your term as ward councillor?
A: I hope to achieve the following:
• Upgrade of the Highveld transfer station
• Working plan to address the homeless people challenge in the ward
• Complete the rebuilding of the water reservoir.
Q: What plans do you have overall for your ward?
A: Here are my overall plans with the ward for the next five years:
• Implantation of the City Planning Policy and by-laws
• Correct zoning of stands where businesses are functional
• All structures in the ward need to have approved building plans
• Ensure that all residents and businesses adhere to the outdoor advertising policy
• Beautification of the ward
• Upgrade all parks in the ward
• Educational programme to educate residents about recycling and its benefits
• Ensure weekly that there is refuse removal at all residential, complexes and commercial properties
• Monitoring illegal dumping hotspots and ensure that where there are incidents, fines are issued and refuse is collected
• Upgrade and maintenance of the infrastructure in the ward
• Upgrade the water network
• Upgrade the sewer network
• Upgrade the electricity network (with a specific focus on substations and mini-stations that service the ward)
• Establish a forum that includes the following role players: NGOs/NPOs/ civil organisation and government departments, namely SAPS, Gauteng Department of Social Development and the City of Ekurhuleni. Each one will have a clearly defined role with regards to addressing this challenge
• Request more shelters for the Kempton Park area
• Establish a place where EMPD/SAPS can take homeless people so that they don’t sleep in the street
• Ensure that residents stay in a safe community where children can ride their bicycles in the streets
• Monitor the crime patterns in the ward and communicate crime overview and trends to the community
• Regular meetings with the management of the police to ensure that the residents have a voice at the SAPS
• Monitor the traffic by-laws enforcement
• Monitor the ratio of cases going to court and the finalisation of the cases
• Monitor and give feedback to the community on the eviction process of Glen Marikana informal settlement.
Q: When looking at your plans and promises when you were elected in the previous term, how much of your plans materialised?
A: The following materialised:
• The building of the Dann Road reservoir to address the water pressure of the Glen Marais/Aston Manor area
• The new cables in the Glen Marais X2 area to address the continuous cable fault in the area
• Building the new EMPD precinct and the Albertina Sisulu Fire Station
• The new cable from the Aston Manor Sub-station to the Glen Marais Substation
• The replacement of the water pipes on Monument Road and Fiskaal Road in Glen Marais due to continuous water pipe bursts in the area
• Maintenance of the water network.
Q: Are there any issues that were not completed in the previous term? How do you plan to work on completing these?
A: The following issues were not completed during the previous term:
• Eviction of Glen Marikina informal settlement residents
• Demolishing the illegal buildings in Ward 16
• Addressing B crimes (drinking in public) by SAPS in the ward
• Completion of the building of the water reservoir in Dann Road.
Q: What will you do differently as a ward councillor this time around?
A: I want to improve communication with all residents of Ward 16. I will be available to residents when they need me and I want to ensure that I represent the interests of the Ward 16 community in the Ekurhuleni council meetings and portfolio committees.
