Service project ends with smiles for Scout from Edenvale

“The community coming together to help me complete my Community Service Project has been mind-blowing,”

After donating 150 care packages and bottles of hand sanitiser to Khanyisa Trust, Elma Park resident Caitlynn Switala thanked community members and businesses for their support.
Caitlynn, a Third Kensington Sea Scout, handed the donations that formed part of her community service project for her Springbok Scout Award to the trust on December 9.
Although she has worked towards attaining the award since she was 11, Caitlynn said she started working on her service project in June.
Caitlynn said overall the project was very successful.
At Khanyisa Trust, Caitlynn thanked the staff for showing her support during her project and allowing her to work alongside them.
Speaking on the support from the community, Caitlynn described it as amazing.
“The community coming together to help me complete my community service project has been mind-blowing,” said Caitlynn.
“At the beginning of my project, I thought it was a huge goal, but the community came together and helped me with everything. I am so thankful.”
Caitlynn said she felt that her project has shown that if you set your mind to something and put in the hard work you can get it done.
“Overall, the best thing for me was to see what a supportive community I stay in and an amazing family and Scout support team I have.”
She thanked her friends, Kyra, Mosidi and Jami, for all their hard work and assistance.
“I would like to give special thanks to my parents, Tanya and John Switala. Without them, I would have never been able to complete this,” highlighted Caitlynn.
She also thanked Uncle Quentin who assisted whenever she needed it.
“He was there when I needed extra hands. He came with his truck, so we did not need to make more trips. Uncle Quentin has also helped me say thank you to some of the residents at Elphin Lodge.”
Although Caitlynn had set out to do more than 150 care packages, she explained she was limited by time.
The care packages will be distributed by Khanyisa Trust to its beneficiaries.
Caitlynn also thanked the following people and companies:
• James Dent of Dent carpets
• Mario Vingos of Oakfield Pick n Pay
• Freddie de Langen of FDL Electrical
• Craig Preston of Burgess Plumbing
• Quentin de Preez of I Wantit kitchen cupboards
• Albert Smook of A&G Earthworks

• Shain Wharren of Checkers Hyper Meadowdale
