SAPS investigating death of elderly woman

“In the bedroom officers found the body on the bed.”

Edenvale SAPS is investigating an inquest docket after the body of a decomposed woman was found in Edenglen.

Edenvale Police Station communications officer Sgt Jacob Mashile said the body of an elderly woman was discovered on November 23 at a complex along Harris Road.

He said police were notified of the body when the caretaker of the complex knocked on the unit’s door but there was no response.

Mashile said the unit was opened by locksmiths in the presence of Edenvale SAPS officers.

“Upon opening the unit, officers were confronted by a bad smell and followed the smell to the bedroom,” said Mashile.

“In the bedroom officers found the body on the bed.”

After the body was discovered, paramedics were called to the scene.

Mashile said paramedics declared the 75-year-old woman deceased on scene.

The body was transported to Germiston Mortuary for further investigation.

“At this stage, no foul play is detected; however, investigations are underway.”
