Guerreiro is ready to serve Ward 92

"The valuation roll has affected the residents differently.”

GCN met with new Ward 92 Clr Kade Guerreiro, who is ready to serve this ward.

“The biggest issue now is communication. For the first 100 days, I aim to improve on community engagement. I want to meet residents and allow them the opportunity to let me know about their problems,” said Guerreiro.

He described Ward 92 as a ‘unique ward, faced with unique problems’.

“One issue is the Sunnyridge area facing water scarcity problems, while Klopperpark residents want their swimming pool and fire station finished.

“Another big issue is in Elandsfontein. The informal settlement there needs serious re-blocking, power issues need to be resolved,” said Guerreiro, who added that he also prioritised streets lights and potholes.

Power
Guerreiro acknowledged that power outages is a problem in Ekurhuleni.

“Meadowdale is an economic hub which is constantly faced with power outages. When the power is off, employers have to send their employees home. The city must stick to its 72 hour turn-over period and infrastructure needs maintenance.”

He said water and electricity are needed for business activities.

“Without electricity businesses are losing income. We have small businesses like salons which needs both water and electricity to function. I am one person who will be advocating for the support of these small business and encourage people to support locally,” said Guerreiro.

Property valuation
“The valuation roll has affected the residents differently.

“Residents had huge increases on their properties while their properties are not of the same value. Added to this, unemployment is very high. I have been walking the streets of Ward 92, and I have seen the poverty.”
He also aims to engage youngsters and charities.

Ward 92 consists of Highway Gardens, Harmelia, Klopperpark, Meadowdale, Meadowbrook, Buurendal, Elandsfontein, Kruinhof, Activia Park, Woodmere, Marlands, parts of Sunnyridge, Sunnyrock, Solheim, Symhurst, Jet Park, Bartlett and Bardene.
