Bowlers attend markers course

Looking to the future, Menney said JBA plans to facilitate a BSA level one umpire course next.

The Bowls SA (BSA) Markers Course was recently held at Jeppe Quondam.

Facilitated by Johannesburg Bowls Association (JBA), the course was held in October.

The theory sessions were conducted in the Quondarie, while practical sessions took place on the Austin Plint Green.

Clubs from around the area, which include Bedfordview, Belgravia and Jeppe bowling clubs, participated in the course.

The course was conducted by Tracey Menney of JBA’s technical standing committee with assistance from Mario Selibas, a level one umpire from Bedfordview Bowling Club.

“On behalf of the participants, we extend our thanks to Tracey and Mario for the time they gave up to conduct the course for us and for their guidance during the course,” said Bruce Tobias, chairperson of the Jeppe Bowling Section.

“It is to their credit that all the participants went away feeling they had benefited from the experience.”
Menney said the course had a good turnout.

“Seventeen new markers passed the theory and practical exams. They will now be called on to mark club competitions at various clubs to put into practice their newfound knowledge and skills,” said Menney.

Looking to the future, Menney said JBA plans to facilitate a BSA level one umpire course next.

Menney highlighted it was a privilege to see members from other clubs on the course.

He thanked JBA, Norman Harty, Loreen Lamb and her staff for their assistance.
