Time to spruce up those Bedfordview pavements

Constas explained that RAG organises this annual competition, which is now in its second year, through its Better Bedfordview initiative.

RAG (Residents Action Group) has urged all residents to enter the 2021 Better Bedfordview Best Pavements Competition.

“This is the opportunity for residents to show how they are helping to uplift the area and make Bedfordview better, cleaner, greener and more beautiful.

“We can all make a positive difference in our suburb by looking after our pavements,” said RAG chairperson Marina Constas.

“We are having wonderfully warm weather and there has been some lovely rainfall. It is the ideal time to get your pavement looking neat and pretty and enter the competition to stand in line to win fantastic prizes,” she added.

Constas explained that RAG organises this annual competition, which is now in its second year, through its Better Bedfordview initiative.
“RAG started Better Bedfordview because our community was tired of increasingly poor municipal service delivery and the deterioration of our area.

“We decided to hire some unemployed men to clean and tidy our streets, with support and funding from caring, community-spirited residents and businesses.
“Our clean-up team has grown, and we now have six men who sweep, tidy, weed, trim, paint, prune, plant, pave and pick up litter; working hard to keep our area clean and attractive, to benefit everyone.

“With more support, we can do more; from more clean-up projects and community improvement initiatives, to growing our clean-up team.”

Constas appealed to residents to support RAG and the Better Bedfordview initiative.

“As a non-profit, community organisation, RAG offers a unique security solution and much more. RAG’s reason for being is our community’s wellbeing. All of RAG’s profits go right back into the community, not to directors or shareholders.

“Profits are used to enhance and expand RAG’s service and technology solutions, as well as for community initiatives like our Better Bedfordview clean-up campaign. RAG is an integral part of the local community, and has been for more than 19 years.”

To enter the pavement competition, email photos of your pavement to security@bedfordviewrag.co.za before the closing date, which has been extended to November 8.

Prizes for this year’s competition have been sponsored by The Giglio Boutique Hotel & Restaurant, Vini’s Restaurant, Eastgate Shopping Mall, The Cooking Divas, Rossa Bedfordview, Tirepoint, Fireball Fitness and Sweetie Shop.
