#IMadeMyMark: What Bedfordview and Edenvale Freedom Front Plus candidates have to say

Which service delivery problem in your ward (area), which hinders the rebuilding of the ward’s local economy, will you address first and how?

As part of its role to inform our readers, the NEWS publicly invited the ward candidates in the relevant wards to answer one question: Which service delivery problem in your ward (area), which hinders the rebuilding of the ward’s local economy, will you address first and how?

The FF Plus candidates responded as follows:

Ward 18 Johannes Christoffel Smith:
Johan has been a resident of Ekurhuleni for the past 40 years and is well aware of the infrastructure problems of Kempton Park, including burst water pipes and sewage pollution.

He will focus on ensuring sustainable service delivery, effective public participation processes and community development to create a safe and clean environment for everyone who lives and works there.

He concurs with the FF Plus that the well-being of the residents of the area where he resides is of the utmost importance. Taxpayers must be provided with the services for which they pay good money. He will endeavour to motivate his community to exercise their democratic rights by taking part in public participation processes to influence municipal decision-making, which affects them. The community can no longer stand on the sidelines and watch as Ekurhuleni’s service delivery declines and infrastructure decays under ANC rule.

Ward 20 Michelle Schultz:
The infrastructure of Ekurhuleni’s Ward 20 is extremely outdated, which results in serious water and sewage problems. Michelle will campaign for much-needed upgrades to infrastructure and improved service delivery.

She has been residing in Ekurhuleni for 20 years and helps to provide food and clothing to the homeless and less privileged in the area. Ensuring good service delivery is of utmost importance, so is building and maintaining good relationships with Ward 20’s residents so that problems can be effectively and swiftly addressed and resolved.

This can only be achieved if a clean municipal administration policy is implemented; therefore, she undertakes to expose all corruption and irregularities in the metro council to ensure that the guilty parties are brought to book.

Ward 19 Robert Louis Botha:
Robert has been a resident of Ekurhuleni, where he works as a mechanic, for 53 years. He is seriously concerned about the stormwater problems and frequent power outages in Ward 19.

Like the FF Plus, he values the public participation process and the need for consulting with residents to ensure the best possible solutions, suited to the specific community, are implemented.

Effective mutual communication between the elected councillor and the community is also very important.

He regularly participates in projects aimed at collecting food donations, grass-cutting, as well as collecting food and blankets for the SPCA.
