EHS learner excels at hockey tournament

Shanay was awarded the player of the match by the tournament director, Lance Louw, during the semi-final match against the tournament’s winning team.

Shanay de Klerk, a Grade 11 learner at Edenvale High School (EHS), was awarded the title of player of the match after she competed in the Johannesburg Hockey League’s (JHL) October hockey tournament.

Shanay was drafted and selected for the JHL in 2020 and was retained for 2021 by the Eastside Mavericks u-18 franchise.

The JHL drafts top quality school players from Southerns, Northerns, Easterns, North West and Mpumalanga

The October tournament is held to give members of the league the opportunity to showcase their talent.

Shanay was awarded the player of the match by the tournament director, Lance Louw, during the semi-final match against the tournament’s winning team.

Besides excelling in the tournament, Shanay was also drafted and selected for the u-19 Tshwane Hockey League earlier this year.

Players were selected from top Tshwane schools and only one or two outstanding players were drafted from other schools.

The Tshwane Hockey League tournament was played in September.

At the September tournament, Shanay’s team took the second position in the finals.
