100 candles for Margaret

She was one of seven Kester children to attend Holy Rosary between the 1950s and 1970s.

Casa Serena resident Margaret Kester celebrated her 100th birthday on Wednesday.

Margret is a long-time resident of Edenvale.

She was one of seven Kester children to attend Holy Rosary between the 1950s and 1970s.

Her family was part of the Catholic community in Edenvale and Margaret contributed her soprano voice to the choir at St Theresa Church, where she was a longtime congregant.

Margaret’s musical talents also extended to playing the piano, to the delight of her children and neighbours.

Another passion for Margaret was ballroom dancing.

She was one of the first members of the Edenvale yoga group in the 1960s.

Her sharp mind has been kept active through her love of crossword puzzles, while her multilingual talents were put to the test as an interpreter in the Supreme Court.

Margaret has 13 grandchildren throughout South Africa, Europe and Australia, as well as 13 great-grandchildren.
