#CaxtonCares: NEWS to host 13th Christmas gift collection for Pinocchio children

“For many of the children, the only Christmas presents they will receive this year are those sponsored by the NEWS’ readers.”

The year 2021 marks the 13th year that Bedfordview and Edenvale NEWS will host its annual Christmas gift collection for the children at Pinocchio Educare Centre in Edenvale.

The NEWS’ collection of Christmas gifts has kicked off and we call on our readers for their support to ensure that every child receives a Christmas present when we hand them out on December 7.

We invited our readers to “adopt” a child and buy a Christmas present for that child.

Readers can phone the NEWS and we will provide you with a child’s name, age and gender to ensure you buy a special gift for him or her.

Due to Covid-19 and to ensure the safety of the children and the NEWS’ staff, unlike previous years, we will not host a Christmas party.

The NEWS will, however, also hand out sweet treats along with the Christmas presents.

“It is encouraging to know that with the support of our readers and advertisers, we have managed to host this special Christmas gift collection, much to the enjoyment of the children, for the 13th consecutive year.

“The support from our readers for this annual event over the years has brought hundreds of joyous smiles,” said the NEWS’ editor, Marietta Lombard.

“For many of the children, the only Christmas presents they will receive this year are those sponsored by the NEWS’ readers.”

The centre
The centre is an early learning centre for the stimulation and development of children from impoverished and low-income families in Edenvale and the surrounding areas. It provides low-cost daycare and prepares children for entry into local schools.

The centre was started by Child Welfare SA – Edenvale and Bedfordview due to the high cost of daycare in Edenvale and because of the high number of single-parent children and orphaned children living with relatives.

Readers can visit the NEWS’ office at 25 Main Road, Fishers’ Hill in Primrose, and pick a name provided by Child Welfare SA – Edenvale and Bedfordview or phone the NEWS on 011 822 1792.

Gifts must be dropped off at the NEWS’ office before November 26 and we request that readers drop off these gifts unwrapped.

The NEWS’ team will ensure all gifts and packaging are sanitised at the drop-off.

Readers are welcome to support more than one child.
