As part of its role to inform our readers, the NEWS publicly invited the ward candidates in the relevant wards to answer one question: Which service delivery problem in your ward (area), which hinders the rebuilding of the ward’s local economy, will you address first and how?

ACDP’s candidate responded as follows:
Edenvale and Bedfordview Charlene Bender:
“Sewage leaking onto the Glendower Golf Course is the first thing I would like to deal with in this area.
“To date, the metro has not assisted the Glendower Golf Course to fix this problem, which is of its own making.
“It has not maintained the system as it should have and now expects the golf course to spend tens of thousands of rands to fix the problem.
“The Glendower Golf Course is a bird sanctuary as well as a place where local residents gather to exercise, socialise and relax.
“Already, all the fish have died and the local water system is being polluted, with raw sewage floating downstream. We are concerned about job losses as a result, and the possibility of new sewage leakages in other parts of our area as well.
“Once in council, we would insist on proper maintenance and timeous repairs from the metro.”
