Community member raises concerns over behaviour of clinic staff

“It was very sad to see. Why did the staff have to treat us like that?”

After two visits to Edenvale Clinic, community member Lettie Seedat raised concerns about the professionalism of the staff.

Seedat, who works in Longmeadow Business Estate, went to the clinic at the end of February and then again on July 13 when she needed to have a Covid-19 test done.

She said on both occasions the staff whom she dealt with were unprofessional.

On the first occasion, Seedat said she asked a staff member where she should queue if she required a Covid-19 test and was told where to go.

After doing what she was instructed, Seedat said the staff member then loudly informed her that those requiring Covid-19 tests needed to line up elsewhere.

“We were talking nicely, why did they have to tell everyone why I was at the clinic?” asked Seedat.

During her second visit to the clinic, Seedat said she waited approximately five hours in the cold weather near the vehicle testing yard on the property before she and others were tested.

She said there were approximately 10 other community members who also needed to have Covid-19 tests done.

While waiting for their tests to be conducted, Seedat said the group were not allowed to use the bathrooms at the clinic.

“The staff didn’t want to let us use the clinic’s bathrooms as our Covid-19 tests had not been done, but we cannot control when nature calls.”

Seedat said when the clinic staff started conducting rapid tests, no privacy was afforded the patients and they were done in front of those waiting to have their tests done.

“Once the test was done, the staff told the patient their result in front of everyone,” said Seedat.

“It was very sad to see. Why did the staff have to treat us like that?”

She believes the way staff behaved on July 13 humiliated those who needed to be tested.
