Balderstone students excel on and off the field

These achievements fall in line with the institution’s philosophy and purpose: to provide an environment of excellence that encourages the development of each and every student to his or her full potential.

Balderstone Sports Institute (BSI) continues to achieve merit in the classroom and on the sports field with several top results recently produced by students.

These achievements fall in line with the institution’s philosophy and purpose to provide an environment of excellence that encourages the development of every student to his or her full potential.

BSI students have continued to show great academic results over the past few months whilst still concentrating on their sporting objectives.

This is not an easy combination considering the dedication required to excel in both.

Laylah-Blue Lipchick, Pranay Kapur and Pieter-Andre van der Merwe recently wrote their Cambridge exams.

In their GDE finals, Jayson Borcher obtained 81% in natural science and Christian Rieb achieved 76% in social studies.

On the sporting front, BSI football and golf students continue to push towards their personal goals.

This shows that their training has paid off both on the international and national competitive stage.

2021 has seen great success for the BSI Football Academy with Siviwe Mbonani invited to try out at the AC Milan Academy.

Fellow football student Oyama Meke joined CD La Virgen del Camino in Spain.

BSI’s Junior Golf Academy players continue to impress as they take on the tough golf courses of South Africa and rise to the top of the competitive playing field. Grade 8 student Lefa Maseng won two u-18 provincial tournaments in the last month.

Grade 12 student Bernard Meyer competed in three national men’s tournaments around South Africa with results of tied 7th, tied 11th in the first two events and joint firsts in the KZN amateur event.

With these results, Bernard reached 27th position on the Golf RSA National rankings, a jump of 37 places in just five weeks. His goal is to break into the top 50 for the year. At the same time, he is working hard academically preparing for his Cambridge AS Level exams in a few months.
